Welcome Spring!

I am so happy that Spring is finally here, (although this weekend's forecast is less than encouraging). At least the snow is finally gone and we can begin to poke thru the garden and see what is starting to pop up!  This is a really exciting time of year for gardeners.  We have all but forgotten what the garden looked like last year.  And spring always holds such promise...it's like starting fresh with no mistakes!  I love that feeling!

What can gardeners be doing now?

Pansies are great for this time of year. They can brighten up a garden or a planter and will bloom for a very long time.  You can also be removing your winter protection from trees and shrubs and survey the damage from any rodents.  Begin fertilizing your lawn with pre-emergent organic fertilizer now, as well as overseeding with grass seed.  Another good maintenance job this time of year is adding organic matter to your gardens, such as peat moss and/or manure.

In the meantime, you can always treat yourself to some new Adirondack chairs, that you can relax in after your chores are finished!
